FAQ's

Where did you train to be an animator?

At the London Animation Studio as a part of the second run of students to be mentored by Post Production Studios. Back in those days we used Softimage 3D and all animators were given the same basic tasks to complete. This is very intensive training but I learned more here than I did on the whole of my degree. Everyone got on really well and the overall atmosphere was really good.

Are you currently seeking employment in animation?

Yes. I am always on the look out for the next job and a chance to further my skills, experience and knowledge in this area. Essentially, my goal is produce the best character animation I can. Ideally I would be looking for work in the film and tv sector rather than games development.

Which software do you prefer?

Softimage XSI is simply the best. An animator's dream. I can't believe just how good those people at Avid have made this application. It has come on in leaps and bounds since Softimage 3D and makes your job so much easier. Maya is excellent too. I always say it is rather like trying to choose between a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster. Both are excellent it's just a matter of personal preference.

Who are your influences?

Too numerous to mention! Since becoming aware of Disney and Ray Harryhausen as a child in the seventies and a serious animation student in the eighties I have continued to look up to graphic artists, directors and animators in many different styles. I think you can take influences from any where not just other animators. I find a lot of inspiration in nature and the world around me. I am always hungry to see new talent emerge and go from strength to strength.

What kind of projects would you most like to work on?

Film would be my ultimate goal. I am setting my sites high and aiming for one of the big studios in the long run.

Do you have any other creative interests?

Yes. One day I must get around to trying print making, especially silk screen printing and lithography. Photography is another interest of mine. I try to do mostly out door pictures of out of the way scenes and natural world subject matter - anything unusual that catches my eye all in a natural available light. If I ever have time I'll try furniture making too! I also dabble in music and play the guitar when time permits.

What are you currently working on?

My present creative preoccupation is to finish this web site and then my aim will be to concentrate on producing quality content in terms of more 3d character animation and line drawings. This will be my core work in progress for my demo.
